Brentwood CPA honored by peers for personal financial planning expertise

Derek Bland

Derek Bland, a Brentwood father of three, Brentwood YMCA board member, and Certified Public Accountant with LBMC Investment Advisors, LLC, was one of 22 CPAs age 40 and under from around the country honored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for their contributions to the areas of personal financial planning.

Bland and the others were the first recipients of the Standing Ovation awards, which recognize the best young CPAs in various specialty credential areas.

Bland was given the Standing Ovation at the AICPA's Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference in Las Vegas in mid-January.

Requirements for nomination for the Standing Ovation program in the Personal Financial Planning specialty area include maintaining an active CPA license, being an AICPA member in good standing and holding the PFS (Personal Financial Specialist) credential. Nominees must also be 40 years old or younger.

"The AICPA is pleased to recognize these outstanding young CPAs who hold the PFS credential for their contributions to personal financial planning," said Andrea Millar, CPA/PFS, AICPA's associate director of Personal Financial Planning. "Personal financial planning is a fast-growing field with increasing demand and this underscores the opportunity for up and coming CPAs to serve the public interest by providing these services."

Bland is a Partner with LBMC Investment Advisors, LLC. He joined the firm in 2008. Derek regularly works with clients in the areas of investment strategy development, asset allocation planning, integration of investments with tax planning, and in-depth portfolio analyses. He has more than 10 years' experience in public accounting and financial advisory services.

Bland graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is active in and continues to support many professional and civic organizations, including the TSCPA Personal Financial Planning Committee, TSCPA Sports & Entertainment Committee, and the Nashville Young Leaders Council. He also currently sits on the Board of Directors at the Brentwood YMCA. Derek resides in Brentwood with his wife, two sons, and daughter.
